TNT-Magnolia rematch set Jan. 9

The rematch of this season’s Philippine Cup Finals will cap off the first set of PBA Governors’ Cup games for 2022, the league announced Wednesday, Dec. 22.

TNT and Magnolia Pambansang Manok are scheduled to play a 6:45 p.m. game on Jan. 9 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, their first encounter since late-October in Bacolor, Pampanga.

It was inside the campus of Don Honorio Ventura State University where the Tropang Giga defeated the Hotshots in five games which only ended a six-year title drought but also broke a streak of 11 straight championships by San Miguel Corporation teams.

Facing TNT wraps up Magnolia’s busy schedule for the period of Jan. 5 to 9.

Magnolia starts off the league’s return from the holiday break with a 3 p.m. clash with Blackwater on Jan. 5 before playing Meralco two days later at 6 p.m.

TNT, on the other hand, will battle NorthPort at 3 p.m. on Jan. 6 before the Magnolia duel three days later.

Other games on the schedule are Meralco-Alaska at 6 p.m. on Jan. 5, NLEX-Rain or Shine at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6 while the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel-Blackwater match is at 3 p.m. on Jan. 7.

Games on Jan. 8 will see Alaska-Terrafirma at 4 p.m. followed by San Miguel Beer-Phoenix Super LPG at 6:45 p.m. while Meralco-NorthPort opens the doubleheader on Jan. 9 at 4 p.m.

The league continues to announce its schedule on a weekly basis to assure that the schedule can be arranged without any hitches in the event at least one team has a COVID-19 infection.
