A humanitarian airplane has been deployed by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to the island of Siargao, one of the most hard-hit areas by Typhoon Odette, the organization said on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

PRC said in a statement that the plane had a large team who would assess and document the situation there, provide relief, and restore family links. The deployment included a portable generator, two-way satellite ground station, basic medicines, first aid kits, and communications equipment.
“We were running blind with Siargao because of the lack of communication. This is the reason why we sent a plane to assess the situation and come up with a comprehensive plan to provide relief,” Gordon said.
During a zoom meeting with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent along with national societies throughout the world, PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sen. Richard Gordon gave an exhaustive overview of the situation in the Philippines due to Typhoon Odette.
