The Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) has overturned the result of the 2021 Philracom-PCSO Presidential Gold Cup after a thorough review of the race held on Dec. 12 at the Metro Manila Turf Club in Batangas.
Philracom Chairman Reli de Leon said the Board unanimously decided to “forfeit” the win of Sky Shot in the richest race in local horse racing after they found the jockey of Boss Emong – FM Raquel – guilty of foul riding.
The Board decided to review the race after Super Suerte owner Sandy Javier accused Raquel of impeding the path of the former in the last 800 meters of the 2,000-m contest.
Racquel’s action, according to Javier, allowed Sky Shot to win the race and reward his connections the top prize of P6 million.
“With respect to the disqualification case, the Board declares horse “Sky Shot” as disqualified,” said De Leon.
As a result, Nuclear Bomb was declared winner of the event with Super Swerte moving up to second place. Sky Shot was relegated to third place with War Cannon and Boss Emong finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Board likewise affirmed the suspension of Raquel for 156 days while members of Board of Stewards -- Rommel A. Fernandez, Volter S. Pelipel, and Rene C. Sare – were found guilty of gross negligence. They will be banned for one year.
