2.6M people affected by ‘Odette’; over 104K families staying in evacuation centers — DSWD


The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Wednesday, Dec. 22, more than 2.6 million individuals or over 678,000 families have been affected by the onslaught of typhoon Odette.

Based on the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), as of 6 a.m, Dec. 22, a total of 678,043 affected families or 2,628,048 individuals from 4,750 barangays in 10 regions have been recorded.

The DROMIC logged 104,806 evacuee families or 417,410 individuals. They were staying in 1,946 evacuation centers.

It said the number of families who opted to stay with their relatives and friends increased to 71,391 or 244,141 individuals.

The affected regions were Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos), and Caraga.

Meanwhile, the DSWD said the number of houses damaged due to Odette increased to 159,842. These include 61,918 totally damaged houses and 97,924 partially damaged houses.

The humanitarian assistance extended to the typhoon victims increased to more than P36 million.

The aid was extended by the DSWD, local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations (NGOs).
