Slater Young cries: 'Help out where you can'

Slater Young recently addressed the bashing he received after raising awareness about Cebu post-typhoon Odette.

In a series of Instagram stories, he wrote: "To those few messages that say why we are only drawing attention only to Cebu, I have this to say: We can only post what we know and what we see. We do not have the luxury of being neutral or being politically correct."

"For now, we do what we can for our home town. Kung sa eroplano pa, we'll put our oxygen mask on first before we are ready to help others," he added.

According to him, just because they post about Cebu, does not mean they care less for others.

"I hope my asking for help for Cebu does not detract help from other places," he reiterated. "Help out where you can, Cebu or other places. Stop hating. Now is not the time."

Meanwhile, Slater also shared an update that they are still trying to mount a donation center but they need help with security.

"Liteblock almost got looted again last night and I'm afraid placing food and water would make the looting worse. (Heard some riots are happening na around the city)," he said.

Slater assured his followers that they are securing everything first before they can help out.

"If you know how or who can provide security and are willing to help. Pls visit us a lifeblock (un avenue, across wilcon by the 2nd bridge) so we can start accepting donations," he maintained. "Our dms are filled with kind-hearted people and brands that want to help but d pa namin kayang tanggapin."

Prior, Slater and his wife, co-online content creator Kryz Uy, shared some clips on their respective YouTube channels aftermath of Typhoon Odette in their province.

As of Dec. 20, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said that over 438,000 individuals or more than 109,000 families were taking temporary shelter in evacuation centers after Typhoon Odette wrought havoc in Visayas, Mindanao, and parts of Luzon.

Based on the report of DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), as of 6 a.m, Dec. 20, a total of 109, 914 families or 438,359 individuals have been recorded as evacuees. They were staying in 2,481 evacuation centers.

The affected regions include Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, and Caraga.
