PCG heightens monitoring as 28,000 passengers start sea travel
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has intensified its monitoring on sea travels as more than 28,000 outbound and inbound travelers have started to travel after being stranded in various ports nationwide.
The move is to ensure the safe travel after port operations when "Odette" left the Philippine territory.
While other ports are back in operation nationwide, there are still some that are still closed, including the Port of San Ricardo in Eastern Visayas. Stranded are a combined 194 passengers, drivers and helpers, as well as 187 rolling cargoes.
In Central Visayas, the Pier 1 Cebu City is still closed, with 50 stranded passengers, drivers and helpers.
During its inspection on different ports, the PCG, which deployed 1,586 frontline personnel, has already inspected 301 vessels and 228 motorbancas that allowed the movement of outbound and inbound passengers.
Meanwhile, the PCG’s relief efforts continued as 4,400 family food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) were delivered to Panacan in Davao City.
The family food packs were unloaded from BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) and per family will receive six sacks of rice, canned goods coffee. The items will be delivered to families in Surigao City Surigao del Norte.
The PCG District Western Visayas sent house repair kits to Negros Occidental via BRP Nueva Vizcaya. Aside from the 50 house repair kits, 900 food packs and 500 hygiene kits will be distributed to affected families.
