From national roads, to bridges and even flood-control structures, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has estimated P448.9 million in damaged structures caused by typhoon Odette.
The department released the estimated figure on Tuesday, Dec. 21, following the assessment from the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance, which reported P209.5 million in road damages, P100 million in bridges, and P139.4 million on damaged flood-control structures.
As of Tuesday, the DPWH has reopened 33 road sections, which is crucial in relief operations of different government agencies. The department is working on reopening 11 national road sections that are still impassable in Regions 4-B, 7, 8, 10, and 13.
To help in the recovery efforts in the aftermath of typhoon Odette, Quick Response Teams of the DPWH were dispatched to work on clearing closed roads in the Visayas region, including the Puerto Princesa North Road due to damage in Langogan Bridge in Brgy. Langogan, Puerto Princesa City.
Also being cleared is the Cebu-Toledo Wharf Road and Toledo-Pinamungajan Aloguinsan-Mantalongon Road, in Brgy. Cabitoonan, Toledo City because of fallen trees and electric posts, and debris.
The Toledo-Pinamungajan Aloguinsan-Mantalongon Road in Brgy. Cabitoonan, Toledo City was also part of the clearing operations of the QRT because of fallen electrical posts while Sariling Bridge in Malabuyoc, Cebu was damaged.
The Santander-Barili-Toledo Road in Brgy. Madridejos, Alegria, Cebu was likewise cleared due to collapsed pavement at intermittent sections from damaged seawall because of strong waves, fallen trees, electric posts and debris. The Bais-Kabankalan Road was reopened in Brgy. Manlipac, Bais City, Negros Oriental after soil collapse was cleared,
In Mindanao, the impassable roads connect Misamis Oriental-Bukidnon-Agusan Road located in Brgy. Siloo, Malitbog, Bukidnon because of damage of the newly constructed spillway at Siloo Bridge, while the road connecting Butuan City-Cagayan de Oro City-Iligan City Road, Old Mambayaan Bridge was closed due to damage to the bridge.
The Sta. Filomena-Bonbonon-Digkilaan, Rogongon Road, Sitio Salinsing and Purok Lindaban, Brgy. Rogongon, Iligan City was also cleared due to landslide and soil collapse, while the Dinagat-Loreto Road in Mahayahay, San Jose, Dinagat Islands due to road slip.
The NRJ Bayugan-Calaitan-Tandag Rd in Brgy. Sto. Nino, Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur due to road cut; and Bayugan-Esperanza Road in Brgy. Nato, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur due to flooding were previously impassable.
In Bukidnon, four roads still remain difficult for motorists to acces, including Jct. SH Impasug-Ong-Patulangan By-Pass Rd, while the Dinagat-Loreto Road in Mahayahay, San Jose, Dinagat Islands, Dinagat Islands; sections of NJR Bah-Bah-Talacogon Road in Brgy, Lucena, Prosperidad, Agusan del Surl; and Butuan City-Pianing-Tandag Road in Anticala, Butuan City, Agusan del Norte were part of the QTR operations.
