OCTA: Metro Manila ‘very low risk’ for COVID-19


Metro Manila, including 15 of its local government units (LGUs), are now classified under the “very low risk” classification of coronavirus disease (COVID-19 while two of its LGUs remained at the “low risk” classification, said the OCTA Research group.

In its latest report issued on Tuesday, Dec. 21, the group of independent experts said that the region had 79 new COVID-19 cases per day from Dec. 14 to Dec. 20. Metro Manila also recorded an average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 0.55 per 100,000 population, while its reproduction rate remained low at 0.48.

“The National Capital Region’s [NCR} test positivity rate was just 0.6 percent. NCR had an average of 18,127 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests over the past seven days,” said OCTA.

The experts likewise reiterated that the entire region, including 15 of its LGUs named Pateros, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Caloocan, Marikina, Pasay, Taguig, Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Malabon, Parañaque, Valenzuela, Manila, and Makati were now classified under the “very low risk” classification.

Meanwhile, only two LGUs namely Las Piñas and San Juan remained at “low risk” classification.

The experts said that the data presented was obtained from the Department of Health’s (DOH) DataDrop, adding that the “risk levels” described in their report were not “reflective” of the alert levels issued by the DOH and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

Based on the DOH’s data as of Dec. 20, the country’s tally of COVID-19 infections stood at 2,837,730. Of the figure, 2,777,354 have recovered while 50,784 have died. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
