Muntinlupa City government allots P20 M to help LGUs hit by typhoon ‘Odette’


The Muntinlupa City government has allotted P20 million as financial assistance to local government units (LGUs) that were hit by typhoon “Odette.”

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), as of Dec. 20, a total of 375 people were left dead by the onslaught of the typhoon.

Raul Corro, majority floor leader of the Muntinlupa City Council, said they have approved an ordinance on Dec. 20 authorizing Mayor Jaime Fresnedi to grant financial assistance of P20 million to 30 LGUs devastated by typhoon “Odette” in Visayas, Mindanao and Palawan.

P1 million each will be given to Dinagat Island and Siargao. The remaining 28 LGUs will each receive at least P500,000 of which 18 will be identified by the Office of the Vice President and 10 by the Muntinlupa City government.

The funding will come from Muntinlupa’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund, which is a five percent mandatory appropriation in the annual budget for providing financial assistance, among others, to other LGUs hit by various calamities.

Fresnedi expressed his sadness over the devastation caused by typhoon “Odette.”

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) placed the death toll from typhoon “Odette” at 58 as of Dec. 20 with 18 missing and 199 injured.

It said 276,522 families, or 997,665 individuals, were affected by the typhoon in 2,961 barangays in the country.

The NDRRMC said the damage to infrastructure including government facilities, flood control, bridges and roads totaled P225.17 million while damage to agriculture was estimated at P118.28 million.
