A low pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is expected to enter the country in the next two to three days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

In a public weather forecast, PAGASA weather specialist Nikos Peñaranda said that the LPA may enter PAR on Wednesday, Dec. 22, or Thursday, Dec. 23.
“Subalit nananatili pong maliit ang tiyansa nitong maging isang tropical depression at hindi naman natin inaasahan na ito po ay lalakas (It is less likely to develop into tropical depression and it is not expected to further intensify),” Peñaranda said.
However, Peñaranda added that once it enters PAR, the weather disturbance may bring isolated rain showers in the eastern Visayas and northeastern Mindanao along with the surge of the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”
The state weather bureau likewise said that the shear line, also called the tail-end of frontal system, will bring isolated rain showers in the eastern section of northern Luzon, particularly in Cagayan Valley.
On the other hand, PAGASA said that Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the northeast monsoon.
Residents of Mindanao are likewise advised to remain vigilant against scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ)
PAGASA said that the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
