Best-selling author-coach Myke Celis shares thoughts on how to celebrate Christmas during trying times

For many, it can be said that the last two years have been difficult, so to speak.

With the ongoing battle with the pandemic, the rise of unemployment, the many deaths in between due to COVID-19 and other natural tragedies, life has been very challenging for a lot of people.

And now, as we celebrate the Yuletide holidays, some are finding it hard to be in the festive mood that has been the norm during the pre-pandemic time whenever December arrives.

Celebrity life coach and best-selling author Myke Celis says that it’s quite normal to feel that way when times are hard.

Celis said: “When times are difficult, it’s really hard to find reasons to celebrate especially when you lose a job, a loved one or find yourself surrounded with so much uncertainty. The thing here though is because we tend to focus a lot on what went wrong rather than what we still have that’s working for us in our current space.”

He affirms, though, that it’s not easy to move on and be optimistic immediately.

Coach Myke, who has helped a lot of people deal with their anxiety and cope during challenging times through his #bestmeever platform, says that healing takes time and effort.

“When something bad happens, it’s actually a sign for us to step back and allow ourselves to feel our emotions. We shouldn’t force ourselves to be ok immediately. Again, allow yourself to feel the emotions, but don’t become what you feel. That’s different. And when you’re done reflecting and releasing them, reflect on your current space, ask yourself what’s next for you. What you have now still is just as important than what you lost: and that is the chance to start all over again. You just have to be committed to yourself as you trust the process.”

He furthers give tips on how holidays can still be happier despite challenging times:

“Take it slow. Take time to find the silver lining: what must I learn from this, and what can be good about this? Allow yourself to come up with a vision of how you want to move on and forward, and then start planning thereafter. Surround yourself with people who can shower you with love and support. Remember, you don’t have to journey alone. And if you can, create new happy memories thereafter. Know that whatever difficulty you’ve experienced (or currently having), it’s temporary. Life goes on. So can you. And that’s one thought that can make you merry during the holidays.”
