
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) updated its bulletin noting that the earthquake that jolted Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday, Dec. 21 was recorded with a magnitude of 5.1 instead of 4.8 as reported earlier.
The epicenter of the said quake was traced 15 kilometers (km) northeast of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.
Phivolcs likewise reported that the quake was “moderately strong” at Intensity IV in Sablayan and Rizal, Occidental Mindoro.
It was likewise felt as a “weak tremor” at Intensity III in Abra De Ilog, Santa Cruz and Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro; and Calapan City and Bansud, Oriental Mindoro.
Moreover, the earthquake was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Makati City, Batangas City, and Baco, Oriental Mindoro.
Intensity I was also recorded in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro and Tingloy, Batangas.
The agency’s instruments also recorded the quake at Intensity IV in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro; Intensity III in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; and Intensity II in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Batangas City.
An instrumental Intensity I was also felt in Tagaytay City, Cavite; Mulanay, Mauban, Gumaca and Dolores, Quezon.
In its updated bulletin issued at 1:38 p.m., Phivolcs said that the quake was aftershock of the magnitude 5.3 earthquake event that occurred in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on Oct. 3, 2021. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
