To allow local government officials and government rescue and restoration teams to look after victims of typhoon Odette, presidential aspirant Sen. Manny Pacquiao has decided to make himself more useful by personally overseeing that the relief operations at his headquarters run smoothly and arrive on time.

Pacquiao believes that his presence in the typhoon-stricken areas would only disrupt the ongoing rescue and relief efforts of the local and national governments.

He is currently supervising the logistical and coordination efforts of his team to ensure that his help to the victims arrive in time, the Pacquiao campaign headquarters revealed.

On Sunday night, another humanitarian flight has landed in Cebu and has unloaded ten tons of assorted relief items including boxes of drinking water.

"Hindi naman ako kailangan dun. Maiistorbo lang yung mga sundalo at pulis natin na tumutulong sa mga relief at rescue operation. Pabayaan muna natin sila na gawin ang trabaho nila, (I am no longer needed there. My presence might only disrupt the relief and rescue operations of soldiers and policemen. Let them do their job),” he said.

Like in many calamities in the past, Pacquiao shells out his own money to help those adversely affected, especially the poor.

He never discloses the cost of his donations but it is believed that they run by the millions of pesos.

The Pacquiao press statement disclosed that based on reports he received from his team, portions of the relief were turned over to Cebu provincial leaders while the rest were loaded into 9 vans to provide relief in the towns of Carcar, Oslob, Toledo,Naga, Talisay, Santander, Alcoy and nearby towns.

Pacquiao expressed his gratitude to the Gokongwei and the Tan family for allowing the use of Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines to airlift the relief goods.

"My instruction is to help as many as they can in as many towns as possible. If security is not a problem, they should go straight to the people," said Pacquiao.

Pacquiao said that his team in Manila is also preparing truckloads of relief goods that would be transported by land to Leyte and to Bohol by boat.

"We are preparing trucks for Leyte and Bohol hoping they can leave tonight.We are just waiting for more goods to arrive before I send them out, " Pacquiao said as he appealed to people to donate and extend more help to Odette victims.

Pacquiao said relief goods from General Santos City will be used for disteibution to affected areas in Mindanao including nearby islands such as Siargao, Hinatuan and Dinagat.
