'Nyatoh' no longer expected to enter PAR --- PAGASA

Typhoon ‘Nyatoh’ is no longer expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but its trough will bring scattered rain showers over parts of the country in the next 24 hour period, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Dec. 2.

“‘Nyatoh’ is no longer expected to enter PAR. The typhoon is forecast to move generally northeastward beginning tonight until Saturday. Over the next 24 hours, the typhoon will continue intensifying under favorable environmental conditions,” said PAGASA in its 11 a.m. tropical cyclone advisory.

As of 10 a.m., the center of typhoon ‘Nyatoh’ was located 1,450 kilometers (km) east of central Luzon outside PAR. It has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, gustiness up to 160 kph, and is moving northward at 10 kph.

The state weather bureau added that the typhoon is forecast to decelerate on Saturday, Dec. 4, as its circulation becomes more embedded in the lower-level northeasterlies associated with the cold surge of the Northeast Monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”

“Despite its distance from the Philippine landmass, the trough of this typhoon will bring increased likelihood of scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao,” it added. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
