Makati City starts simulation of limited face-to-face classes

A school in Makati City has started its simulation of limited face-to-face classes on Thursday, Nov. 2, as it gears up for the eventual return of limited face-to-face classes amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the looming threat of its Omicron variant.

The Comembo Elementary School is among the schools in Metro Manila chosen by the Department of Education (DepEd) to conduct limited face-to-face classes starting Monday, Dec. 6.

Metro Manila is under Alert Level 2 for COVID-19 which means limited face-to-face classes under this alert level are allowed but subject to DepEd's approval.

According to Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, the city is prepared for the return of limited face-to-face classes despite the pandemic. The school has been fitted with temperature scanners, alcohol dispensers, foot baths, UV lights, and large air purifiers as part of the public health and safety protocols.

She said the LGU has also deployed "Dyipni Maki" to safely transport students from far flung areas.

Binay explained that aside from its preparations for the limited face-to-face classes, the LGU also improved the distance learning of students and teachers alike.

A total of 85,000 students from preschool up to senior high, including Advanced Learning System (ALS) and Special Education (SPED) learners have received their on-the-go or OTG flash drive which contains the digitized self-directed modules and video broadcast editions. The flash drives can be accessed even without internet and may be installed in cellphones, tablets, ipads, laptop, desktop computers or smart TV.

The LGU also deployed 27 Dyipni Maki mobile learning hubs in different barangays containing books, laptops, learning materials, and even teachers to teach students.
