Aside from the festive mood, glorious food, overflowing drinks, and gifts, we look forward to hearing Christmas carols at the first hint of the holiday season.

Two Christmas songs by Pinoy Folk King Freddie Aguilar capture the beauty of being home for Christmas, reminding us about rekindling feelings of love, warmth, and a sense of belonging. The works, and all the Christmas feels.

“Pasko Ang Damdamin” talks about an overseas Filipino worker returning to the country to celebrate Christmas after a long absence. For him, the idea of being reunited with family members is the true essence of the season.

It speaks of love of family, community, country, and patriotism.

People say that Christmas feels more special in the Philippines than anywhere in the world. Overseas Filipinos know this by heart, noting it’s never quite the same.

Netizens expressed excitement and nostalgia on social media as Ka Freddie’s lyric video on Alpha Records’ YouTube hits about 600,201 views as of writing.

“Wow! Nice Christmas song, pahinungod sa mga OFW,” shared Merlina Tindungan on the said page.

“Ito ‘yung kanta na nagpaluha sa’kin noong nag-pasko ako sa Taiwan... Sobrang meaningful!” according to John Clapano.

Jovy Valiente was also teary-eyed as she said “Still listening to this in 2021.”

“Gusto kong mag-pasko sa aking inang bayan (Pilipinas), ngunit nag-aalala ‘ko sa sitwasyon ng COVID. Kay lungkot ng Pasko sa akin,” Wilfredo Gajardo posted.

No matter the situation, or their location anywhere around the world, Filipinos manage to power through with resiliency and words of affirmation, especially during this time of the year.

For netizen Jeffrey Quijano, he said he always feels the spirit of Christmas through Ka Freddie’s songs.

“September 1 brought me here. Merry Christmas, everyone! Kahit may pandemic pa rin hanggang ngayon, Christmas is still in the air,” he added.

Meanwhile, “Sa Paskong Darating,” another Pinoy favorite, centers around a wish to celebrate another Christmas together with a loved one. The song is a beautiful serenade set to Christmas mode.

Listen:

“Sa Paskong darating

Nais ko'y ikaw pa rin

Ang aking kapiling

At sa mga araw pang darating”

The lover has just one wish, to be reunited with his beloved. To paraphrase, the song has this simple message: “All I want for Christmas is you.”

Freddie Aguilar, as a Filipino folk musician, celebrates the spirit of Christmas with a haunting melody and heartfelt message through “Sa Paskong Darating.”
