Aquino, Shinshu reach Emperor's Cup quarterfinals; Kawasaki eliminates Dwight's Toyama

Matthew Aquino saw little action in the Shinshu Brave Warriors’ 78-69 victory over Sea Horse Mikawa to reach the quarterfinals of the All-Japan Basketball Championship Wednesday, Dec. 1 at the Wing Arena in Nagano.

Aquino, who didn’t see action for Japan in the recent FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, played less than two minutes and didn’t register any statistics for the Brave Warriors, who kept their campaign in the cup tournament known as the Emperor’s Cup.

The Brave Warriors advanced to the last eight where they’ll face the Ryukyu Golden Kings on Jan. 5, 2022.

Ryukyu rolled past the Akita Northern Happinets, 101-69, behind 23 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals from three-time PBA Best Import Allen Durham.

Dwight Ramos and the Toyama Grouses’ campaign in the Emperor’s Cup came to an end after a 70-58 defeat to the Kawasaki Brave Thunders at the Todoroki Arena.

Ramos finished with eight points and five rebounds for the Grouses.

Former PBA import Nick Fazekas posted 16 points and 14 rebounds to send Kawasaki to the quarters against Alvark Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Aquino, Ramos and the rest of the Filipino players in the first division of Japan’s B.League resume their campaigns this weekend after a two-week break due to the World Cup Qualifiers.
