Former child star-turned-dentist Dr. Maria Rosanna Jover has successfully launched her YouTube Channel called "Artistang Dentista" which aims to update the public on dentistry.
"I long wanted to launch this YouTube Channel, but I was nervous because I am not into technology. Now it's here," said Jover, during a Zoom conference with the entertainment press recently.
Jover added: "I want to bridge dentistry to people. Tips, problems, and anything about dentistry, I am here to discuss these things with all of you. We all had our share of dental concerns that's why we all need a dentist. And that's why I am here."
This is her 31st year of practice as a dentist. She finished dentistry at the Centro Escolar University in Manila in 1990. She passed the dental licensure board exams in 1991. "I was able to earn my master’s degree in periodontics. I also became a lecturer and a professor at the CEU Graduate School." Later she has received numerous awards and citations in the field of dentistry. "Right now, I still go to school. I try to finish two courses in the US pero saka ko na lang ikukuwento yan pagtapos na."
Before she became a dentist, Jover was part of the popular soap "Flordeluna," which made Janice de Belen a popular star. She joined the series in 1983.
"Ang aking role? Ako po ang kontrabida kay Janice de Belen. Kasama ko rin po doon si Dindo Fernando, Laurice Guillen, Herbert Bautista at marami pang artista. Kung may 'Probinsyano' ngayon, yun ang 'Probinsyano' noon kasi halos lahat ng artista noon, na-guest po namin," she said.
When Flor de Luna decided to transfer to Channel 2, Jover did not join the show anymore. "I was already in dentistry proper that time, so I decided to focus on my studies. Halos lahat ng TV shows that time nag-guest na rin po ako. I had the chance to do movies as well. I had the opportunity to be directed by Lino Brocka, Mario O' Hara, and Tony Santos."
Jover was also a part-time model then. Name the product, and she had endorsed them - diaper, burger, beauty soap, laundry soap, telecoms, cable TV, and a lot more.
While she did not stay long in showbiz, Jover said that she's grateful for the lessons learned in the industry.
"My exposure in show business was a good training ground for me in discipline, hard work, and equality. But then destiny tells me to finish dentistry. That's why I'm here as your dentist," she said.
Jover said she has a son who she said is good-looking, enough to be a movie star. "Guwapo siya. He's also taking up dentistry. We will see if he will join showbiz."
Asked about the movie star with the best smile, Jover said: "I like Julia Montes. When she smiles, it's perfect. Ang ganda ng teeth niya."
Jover also shared success tips to the public.
"If you want to reach your goals, you only have to decide and take the first step. Be it school, work, or anything. Just take that first step. Like this YouTube Channel. I've been planning to have one before, Now I am doing this. Anything that you want to do, just do it well. "You do it for the glory of God."
Jover added: "Always try to learn something. "Kung may narinig kayo na maganda ang na improve ang sarili ninyo, okay yun. Huwag natin palilipasin ang araw na wala lang. Just look around, you will learn a lot. I will try my best for you to learn about dentistry through my YouTube Channel."
