Cebu solon urges Meralco to assist provinces hit by 'Odette'
Cebu 1st District Rep. Eduardo Gullas is asking the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) to extend assistance to local electric cooperatives in his province to be able to quickly restore the downed power lines in the area.
Gullas on Sunday appealed to Meralco chairman Manny Pangilinan to send help as it might be possible to the company "to send equipment and personnel to help reinstall Cebu’s downed electricity poles and lines."
While the Visayan Electric Co. (VECO) and other energy stakeholders are doing their best to fix the lack of power, Gullas said Cebu needs all the help it can get in swiftly reviving electricity supply to households.
As of Sunday noon, about 1.73 million Cebu residents still do not have power supply due to the onslaught left behind by Typhoon "Odette."
"Getting our electricity back on should be our No. 1 priority, because it will help solve other problems, including the lack of water,” Gullas said in a statement.
"We do not want the lack of running water to cause public health problems," he added.
