A different Angelica in 'The Kangks Show'

Angelica Panganiban may only be 35 years old, but since she started in showbiz at the tender age of 5 or 6, it's safe to say that her career has already spanned a whopping three decades! You would have thought she already played all kinds of characters, but fans would be delighted to know that it's the first time for Angelica to play a doctor slash sex advice guru in the upcoming "The Kangks Show."

Debuted exclusively on the free streaming app WeTV last Dec. 17, The Kangks Show is a no-holds barred series that will talk openly about the different aspects of sexuality in the Filipino context.

"Hindi ako maka-get over the first time I read the script of "The Kangks Show." It had a powerful impact on me. It's my first time to play a doctor and para akong bumalik sa school. In one episode, I had to memorize 10 pages of script," the award-winning Angelica revealed.

It will be recalled that the actress announced last summer her decision to retire from teleseryes for a while. Most of her time is now spent in Subic with her boyfriend, Gregg Homan. But once her friend, the show's director Tonet Jadaone presented to her the brief of the show where she will play the role of Doc Cara Teo, it was something Angelica couldn't resist and say no to.

"Ï found my role challenging. Seryoso sya. Akala ko comedy lang. Lumawak ang knowledge ko about sexuality, gender roles and science. Para akong nagkaroon ng bagong superpowers," Angelica narrated.

Jadaone said she had no one else but Angelica to play the lead in "The Kangks Show."

The two women collaborated previously on the box office hit "That Thing Called Tadhana" and 'Beauty In a Bottle.''

The director said it was about time a show openly discussed sex which is a taboo subject in Philippine society. The show even deals with extreme topics like threesomes and dealing with HIV/ÁIDS.

"Kapag napanood ito ng mga tao, siguradong makaka-relate sila kahit sa isang character lang," Jadaone pointed out.

Produced by Project 8 Projects for WeTV, "The Kangks Show" also stars Maris Rascal who plays Angelica's influencer-rival, JC De Vera as the cameraman, Kit Thompson, Angeli Bayani and the rest of the supporting cast.
