SekSinema (Gender Images in Philippine Sex Cinema Enfolding Pandemia) book virtual launch fiery on talk

'SekSinema' book

What dynamo award-winning actress and beauty queen Maria Isabel Lopez could unleash when she discussed with intelligence and charm her past and current experiences doing sex scenes onscreen?

Maria Isabel just wowed and amazed the hosts, panelists and members of the entertainment press when she freely and cerebrally answered and rejoined interesting questions from the floor.

“Noon, binibilang ko ang mga eksena na may kissing scenes o maliligo ako. May kontrata ako kung nakalagay doon kung ano ang pinag-usapan namin ng prodyuser or direktor tungkol sa paghuhubad ko (I would count the scenes which would require kissing scenes or may be taking a bath. I had a contract and all the things we’ve agreed would be stipulated there about my going bold),” informed Maribel during the recent virtual launch of the new book of author Boy Villasanta, “SekSinema (Gender Images in Philippine Cinema Enfolding Pandemia),” hosted by artist Gem Suguitan and blogger Arnie Alesna.

“Pag nakita ko o may ipapagawa sa akin na wala sa kontrata (If I saw that they would make me do things not in the contract), I requested a talk with the producer or director and I usually demanded for additional talent fee,” added Lopez.

The 1982 Binibining Pilipinas-Universe said that sex cinema during the days of the dictatorship was used as palliative to diffuse political unrest and economic bankruptcy or to cover up for government scandals and inefficiency. “Ginagamit nila ang sex para makalimutan ng taumbayan ang mga problema at ang mga isyu na mahalagang malaman ng mga mamamayan (The use sex cinema so that the masses would forget the problems and important issues that must be informed and solved for the good of the citizenry),” Maribel observed.

Meanwhile, internationally acclaimed filmmaker Brillante Ma. Mendoza said that sex cinema has always been the jumping board for stars to go up the ladder of popularity and good acting. “Halos lahat naman ng mga sikat na artista ay nag-bold kaya walang kaso ang sex cinema. Hindi ito dapat hadlangan (Almost all the popular stars had in one way or the other done bold roles, so it’s shouldn’t be an issue among moralists and conservatives),” opined Brillante.

Newbie Rash Flores who has steamy scenes in the Viva Films’ “Palitan” which is currently live-streaming in Vivamax said that “I see to it na may ibig sabihin ang ginagawa kong paghuhubad kaya tinatanong ko ang direktor kung ano ang ibig saihin ng gagawin ko (That my baring onscreen must have meaning, so I ask my director about it),” said Rash.

Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chair Liza Diño-Seguerra extended her congratulatory remarks to the making of “SekSinema (Gender Images in Philippine Sex Cinema Enfolding Pandemia)” and requested Boy to coordinate with her so that the office could acquire copies of the book for references in research in Philippine cinema.
