Ammonia leaks from an ice plant in Navotas City

Residents and officials of Navotas City were alarmed due to an ammonia leak in an ice plant on North Bay Boulevard in Barangay NBBS at around 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18.
In a Facebook post, the Bureau of Fire Protection in Navotas (BFP-Navotas) said its personnel responded at 7:45 a.m. and successfully contained the ammonia leak at about 8:23 a.m.
Authorities said the incident was caused by a mechanical failure at the cooling tower of the industrial building.
The cooling system is set to undergo a maintenance checkup.
No one was harmed and no damage to property was reported during the incident.
