Mayor Isko seeks funds for Odette relief ops

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso called on the Manila City Council to pass a resolution allocating funds for relief operations in areas devastated by Super Typhoon "Odette" on Friday, Dec. 17.

About 198,000 people have been displaced and at least one death has been reported in the wake of "Odette," according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

“I have already asked the presiding officer of the City Council, Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, to immediately hold a special session and a resolution be passed allocating a certain sum of money for the typhoon victims in the Visayas and Mindanao...Thankful as we are that Metro Manila and Luzon were spared by Typhoon Odette, I now appeal to kind-hearted Manilenos to share whatever they can for our Visayan and Mindanao brothers severely affected by the typhoon,” said Domagoso.

Domagoso’s campaign chief Lito Banayo has started coordinating with Cebu third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia regarding Domagoso’s plan to go to Cebu in order to lead relief efforts on behalf of the City of Manila.

“I was told by Rep. PJ Garcia that they do not yet have a clear assessment of the damage from Odette since power and communication lines were down at the height of the typhoon. Hopefully, power will be restored and the Cebu airport becomes operational again by next week,” said Banayo.

Domagoso also recommended the creation of “Tulong ng Manilenyo sa mga Nasalanta ni Odette (Manila's assistance for victims of Odette),” a fundraiser for the victims of Odette that would appeal to residents of Manila and supporters of Domagoso’s presidential bid for financial support.
