Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso approved the P2.5 billion 2022 budget proposal for the Special Education Fund (SEF) for the city on Thursday, Dec. 16.
The SEF will be used to rehabilitate schools and supplement beneficiary programs for students and teachers in Manila.
The proposed budget of P2,556,546.10 for the SEF was approved during a meeting of Domagoso with the Local School Board, Division of City Schools (DCS) Superintendent Doctor Magdalena Lim, and other DCS officials.

Under the P2.5 billion SEF budget, the Ramon Magsaysay High School (HS) in Sampaloc, which is believed to have the largest student population in Manila, will be reconstructed into a 10-storey high building with 232 classrooms.
The SEF will also fund the repair of 12 other schools in the city, namely; Amado V. Hernandez Elementary School (ES) in Tondo; Barrio Obrero ES in Maypajo; J.P. Laurel HS in Tondo; Melchora Aquino ES in Tondo; Pedro Guevarra ES in San Nicolas; Antonio Regidor ES in Santa Cruz; Cecilio Apostol ES in Santa Cruz; Cayetano Arellano HS in Santa Cruz; Valeriano Fugoso ES in Sampaloc; Aurora Quezon ES in Malate, Manuel Roxas HS in Paco; and General Emilio Aguinaldo HS in Santa Ana.
The SEF will also supplement both the cellular data connectivity allowance of students and teachers and the free annual medical checkup of 11,000 DCS teachers.
