ILOILO CITY — Residents in Roxas City, the capital of Capiz province, have started evacuating ahead of the onslaught of Typhoon “Odette”.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas said that several families heeded the call of Roxas City government to evacuate as early as Wednesday, December 15.

An initial 51 families from Punta Cogon village were temporarily transferred to the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center Wednesday night. These coastal residents chose to transfer after the winds and the waves got stronger.
As of Thursday, more than 431 families are affected or 1,684 persons.
Pong Saneo, chief of the Roxas City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (Roxas City DRRMO), said that residents of other coastal villages and even island villages are urged to evacuate.
Based on data from the Capiz Provincial DRRMO, the towns of Jamindan, Mambusao, Ivisan, Saipan, Panay, Sigma, Pontevedra, Pila, Pres. Roxas, and Maayon also had pre-emptive evacuations. These are at least 1,300 families or more than 4,700 persons affected.
