The Philippines, through the Department of Education (DepEd), will be hosting the ASEAN School Games next year.

DepEd said that the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Dumaguete City has also agreed to push through with the staging of the ASEAN Schools Games in November 2022.
“We will proceed with the games," Education Secretary Leonor Briones said. "Then, the plans should always be considered. We will adjust accordingly based on the current health situation,” she added.
Briones also pointed out that the organizers should have multiple plans amidst the public health situation to ensure the success of the said sports festivity.
“There has has to be plan A, plan B, and plan C, because we can never really, at this point, tell what will happen in the next few months,” Briones explained.

Based on the consultative meeting participated by the technical representatives from the ASEAN School Sports Council (ASSC) last March, the Philippines have signified its intention on hosting the 2022 edition.
This was agreed by the ASSC and the original 2022 host country which was, Vietnam.
DepEd said that the host of the 12th ASEAN Schools Games must secure the availability of the playing venues, accommodation, transportation, food (including Halal for Muslim delegates), Liaison Officers, and COVID-19 Health and Safety Interventions, including the quarantine facilities, testing kits, among others.
"Furthermore, the composition of the contingent would reach an estimate of 5,250 people, including the delegation officials, team officials and athletes from 10 different nations, and Philippine working committees and technical officials," DepEd said.
DepEd noted that the majority of the ASSC member countries "have expressed their preference" of conducting the said event on July, which is the usual schedule of the event, but this matter would be discussed thoroughly in a scheduled ASSC Ministry Officials’ meeting.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary for Field Operations, Palarong Pambansa Secretariat, and DEACO Revsee Escobedo noted that the conduct of the said event "would also depend on the result of the upcoming Southeast Asian Games as it will decide the sense of comfort of the participants related to the current health situation."
DepEd said that the hosting of the Dumaguete City of the 12th ASEAN Schools Games was supposed to happen in November 2020. However, the event was canceled due to the risk of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
