'Odette' forces families in E. Samar to be 'Cavemen' for a night
TACLOBAN CITY - Classrooms and designated evacuation centers are the usual shelters of families seeking refuge from disasters.
However, some families took refuge in some unconventional shelters as Typhoon 'Odette' passes through Eastern Visayas.
In Marabut, Samar, families living along that coastal area from Brgy. Caluwayan and Tinabanan evacuated in Tinabanan Cave.
PLt. Wendell Marteja, Marabut Police Chief, said the cave is one of the identified evacuation sites during typhoons.

The cave, which also served as an evacuation site during Supertyphoon 'Yolanda' was developed by Food for the Hungry Philippines (FH).
After Haiyan, they built facilities such as a comfort room, kitchen, solar lighting, and rain catch water tank outside the cave.
In Salcedo, Eastern Samar, some families in Brgy. Bugtong built 'Kulong,' a traditional shelter used when there is a typhoon in preparation for 'Odette.'
Meanwhile, in Leyte, Leyte, a family built an underground shelter in Brgy. Tigbawan.
They dug a hole placed with a bed and covered it with roofings as they opted not to stay in evacuation centers.
