Biñan suspends classes to commemorate anniversary of Rizal's education in the city

BIÑAN, Laguna – The city government announced the suspension of classes in all levels in public and private schools on Friday (Dec. 17) to give way for the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the completion of Jose Rizal's first formal education in the city.

In a Facebook announcement, Mayor Arman Dimaguila says students are expected to use their free day to join online activities to be streamed through the Facebook page of Biñan City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office.

President Duterte also declared Dec. 17 a special non-working holiday to give Biñanenses full opportunity to participate in the ceremonies planned by the local government unit.

The National Hero departed from Biñan on Dec. 17, 1871, after completing his formal schooling under his teacher, Justiniano Aquino Cruz.
