'Beware!': DOLE chief warns public on fake Facebook account using him for scam

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III has warned against bogus Facebook pages or accounts pretending to be him and asking for money.

This, after Bello received reports that a Facebook account bearing his name continues to prey on unsuspecting individuals for their personal benefit, especially this Christmas season.

Bello emphasized that he is not maintaining and not connected to this account which he tagged as "fake."

"We renew our warning to those behind this nefarious scheme of soliciting gifts, in cash and in kind, that the long arm of the law will eventually catch up on them," Bello said in a statement on Thursday, Dec. 16.

"Stop now and spare friends, acquaintances and ordinary netizens from your evil designs," he added.

The labor chief further advised the public "to just totally ignore the phony social media account."
