7 close contacts of PH's 2nd Omicron case negative for COVID-19—DOH

All seven close contacts of the Nigerian national who was found carrying the Omicron coronavirus variant tested negative for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Health (DOH) said on Thursday night.
“All seven close contacts are negative. Last passenger of the seven located test verified as negative,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire told reporters in a Viber message.
In a press briefing earlier, Vergeire reported that six out of the seven close contacts of the 37-year-old Nigerian national who was onboard the Oman Air flight WY 843 last Nov. 30 "had negative test results and completed facility quarantine."
"The reason why there are just seven close contacts is because the foreign national sat at the very end of the plane. So we only counted those in front of him and on his side," Vergeire said during the press conference.
The close contact of the Philippines’ first Omicron case—the 48-year-old returning overseas Filipino from Japan— also tested negative for COVID-19.
Amid the presence of the Omicron variant in the Philippines, the DOH said the public should not panic. Instead, they should strictly comply with the minimum public health standards and get vaccinated immediately against COVID-19.
The DOH assured the public that the government is further intensifying its measures against the pandemic including border control, whole genome sequencing, testing and isolation, among others.
“Local government units have been directed to continue active case finding and ensure immediate isolation and testing,” said Vergeire.
