PNP: No complainant so far from victims of online bank hacking
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has not received any complaint so far from the depositors of Banco de Oro who reportedly lost their money from online hacking.
Police Lt. Michelle Albino, director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, said that should they receive complaint from any of the reported victim, they would automatically conduct an investigation on the reported breach that affected those whose accounts are connected to online banking of the BDO.
"The investigation would be done by BDO because that is a breach into their system. Unless there is a complaint or there is an order from our Chief PNP, we are very much willing to probe into the matter," said Albino.
But so far, Albino said no affected depositor has sought assistance from them although he said that they understand that depositor would first lodge their complaint to the bank. She added that large companies like the BDO usually have a division that deals with the problem.
In a statement, the BDO said it will reimburse the money of their depositors that were lost due to the hacking.
“BDO are continuously investing and working towards improving our security infrastructure to protect our clients’ money. While we have put back-end measures in place, we appreciate our clients’ continued vigilance to combat fraud,” the statement read.
