The Paranaque City government ranked Top 2 among all the local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) for efficient revenue collection for fiscal year 2020.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez commended City Treasurer Anthony Pulmano for surpassing the collection of P5.6-billion locally sourced revenue (LSR) collection in 2020 to 6.3-billion this year and the office excellent performance in tax collection for the past seven years.
Olivarez said the city government was also awarded a Certificate of Achievement by the Department of Finance’s Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) as Top 5 among all the cities in the NCR for sustaining its revenue generation efforts towards better local governance and efficient public service.
He said the city government was also ranked by the BLGF as Top 2 among all the government units, also for efficient revenue collection.
The mayor said the city’s LSR reached P6.3 –billion which includes the sum of real property taxes, local business tax, as well as fees and charges and receipts from economic enterprises.
Olivarez said BLGF executive director Nino Raymond Alvina disclosed that based on the data submitted through electronic statement of receipts and expenditures in the last quarter of 2020, the year-on-year growth in locally sourced revenues of the city has tremendously increased.
He attributed the high revenue collection to the city’s innovations in tax collection schemes, particularly the Online Payment Facility using automated teller machine (ATM) credit and debit cards through the facilities of UnionBank.
The mayor also noted that the increasing number of local and foreign investors and other business establishments operating in the city before the pandemic has also contributed to the hefty tax haul.
Pulmano said the adoption of the online services on land tax and miscellaneous payments “as we embrace the new normal” helped a lot in the improvement of local tax collection in the city.
