Magnitude 5.1 quake hits waters off Surigao del Norte

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck waters off Surigao del Norte Wednesday evening, Dec. 15, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the quake that was detected at 9:11 p.m. struck 56 kilometers (km) northeast of Burgos, Surigao del Norte, and at a shallow depth of 17 km.
It was initially measured at magnitude 5.5 but Phivolcs later revised it to magnitude 5.1.
The quake was slightly felt at Intensity II in the municipality of Burgos in Surigao del Norte province.
Phivolcs said that damage to property was not expected due to this earthquake but aftershocks may occur.
