Administration solon confident DOH will arrest spread of Omicron variant
A neophyte administration lawmaker on Wednesday, Dec 15 urged Filipinos to give their full trust and confidence in the Department of Health and the science behind the country’s response to the Omicron variant of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that has been detected in the country.

Rizal 2nd District Rep. Fidel Nograles also appealed to the government not to impose again long and widespread lockdowns as the DOH has been doing its best to prevent the spread of the new variant of the dreaded COVID-19.
On Wednesday, the DOH disclosed that it has discovered the first two cases of Omicron infection on an overseas Filipino worker from Japan and a foreigner arriving from Nigeria.
Both were immediately taken to a Bureau of Quarantine facility for isolation.
“We have seen the effects of being vaccinated as we are slowly seeing how the new normal looks like. We don’t want our recovery to be sabotaged by this new variant. We need to be calm, trust science, and allow the government to do what is best for all of us,” said Nograles.
However, the neophyte solon also appealed to the national government not to go back to long and widespread lockdowns.
“Based on most recent data, scientifically-targeted granular lockdowns are way better in controlling the spread of the virus. The best thing about it is that the effect to our people’s livelihood is minimal unlike blanket lockdowns,” he said.
The Harvard-trained lawyer underscored that what needs to be focused on, aside from granular lockdowns, is the vaccination of more citizens.
“It is a good thing that both Omicron cases are already isolated. This will help calm the public. We must address vaccine hesitancy in some areas of the country to ensure herd immunity while also making booster shots available for those who are already vaccinated,” he added.
