Unvaccinated Pinoys stress out Rody: 'Mamatay ako sa inyo'
"You'll be the death of me."

President Duterte had this to say to Filipinos who, over nine months into the government's mass vaccination program, still refuse to get inoculated from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
"And at this time, we will say that we will be celebrating Christmas in the coming days. Stay safe and iyong wala pang bakuna, mamatay ako sa inyo (to those who have yet to be vaccinated, you'll be the death of me)," Duterte said on Monday night, Dec. 13, during his pre-taped "Talk to the People" public briefing.
"Mag --- mamatay ako o kayo ang patayin ko? Magpabakuna kayo para sa kapakanan ng ating bayan (Shall I just die or shall I just kill you? Get vaccinated for the sake of our country)," the President said, his threat against his unvaccinated compatriots tongue-in-cheek.
The 76-year-old leader made these remarks ahead of the second round of national vaccination days, to be held from Dec. 15 to 17.
The event is a follow-up to the three-day "Bayanihan, Bakunahan" that took place from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.
The Philippines first rolled out COVID-19 jabs on March 1, 2021. Discussions concerning the vaccines have since shifted to the availability of "booster shots"--extra doses of the jab that are meant to give additional protection to individuals.
"And iyong wala pang booster, magpa-booster na kayo. Nandiyan 'yung bakuna (To those who have yet to get a booster shot, go get them. The jabs are there). Nandiyan na (It's there) for your pleasure of using para ang ating bayan makakamit ng (so that our country could possibly achieve) maybe herd immunity. It is not coming forthwith but maybe in a few months we would be able to do that," noted Duterte.
Duterte has described himself in past briefings as akin to a broken record in repeatedly imploring Filipinos to get vaccinated from COVID-19. He said people's lives and the survival of the Philippine economy depend on it.
