As we are waiting for the coming of the 20th anniversary special for the “Harry Potter” film series, here’s something that will also add excitement to Potterheads everywhere.
Warner Bros. unveils the first trailer for the third installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, a spin-off of and prequel to the “Harry Potter” film series, on Dec. 13, 2021. Dubbed “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” the upcoming film follows the events of the last film, “Crimes of Grindelwald,” but this time, the dark wizard has a new face.
Replacing Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald is Mads Mikkelsen. In the released trailer, we get to see Mads as he breathes life into the antagonist opposite young Dumbledore portrayed by Jude Law. Directed by David Yates, the film continues to uncover stories about the war before the prophetic tale of Harry Potter began. Set in the 1930s, it will show the Wizarding World’s involvement during World War II, with Grindelwald, who is planning to take over the No-maj’s world, continuing to grow his army and following.
“Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches, and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers,” the synopsis says. “But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”
Reinforcement is on the way with the film series’ lead Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a magizoologist, employed again to help save the world and take down Grindelwald, this time, with a band of unlikely sorcerers and a Muggle. Having Newt’s back are his brother Theseus Scamander (Callum Turner), his indispensable assistant Bunty (Victoria Yeates), a wizard descended from a very old family Yusuf Kama (William Nadylam), an Ilvermorny’s Professor Eulalie “Lally” Hicks (Jessica Williams), and a Muggle Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler). Also reprising their roles are Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, and Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone.
“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” is written by Steve Kloves and “Harry Potter” author J. K. Rowling, and is set to premiere on April 15, 2022.
