COA releases Senate 2020 expenditures: Recto incurs highest disbursement, Go the lowest
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph G. Recto incurred the highest expenditures at P116,824,147.68 for salaries, travel, procurement of supplies and other authorized operations of his office in 2020, the Commission on Audit disclosed yesterday.

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s office had the lowest expenses for the year, disbursing a total P65,495,620.11.
On the other hand, Senate President Vicente “Tito Sotto’s office released a total P107,692,107.04 in 2020.
In its Itemized LIst of Amounts Paid to and Expenses Incurred for Each Senator, COA disclosed that the total Senate expenses for the listed items for the year was P2,255,982,995.84.
The report submitted by Supervising Auditor Cynthia Ferrer indicated that among the expenditures items that were aggregated included salaries of senators, their staff and consultants; travels for Senate members and staff, extraordinary and miscellaneous expenses, rental of motor vehicle and equipment, supplies and materials and other maintenance and operating expenses.
Disbursed funds for committee operations and staff were also computed by COA.
In 2020, Sotto received the highest salary at P3,994.380 while Minority Leader Franklin Drilon and Sen. Aquilino “Koko Pimentel III took home P3.344,112 in pay.
New senators, among them Senators Ronald De la Rosa, Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino and Go, received at least P3,155,580.
Apparently due to the travel restrictions imposed during the year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, expenditures for local and foreign travel of senators totaled P9,933,776.34 and P1,425,254.85, respectively.
On the other hand, official travels of senatorial staff aggregated P44,572,079.63 for local trips and PP332,901,21 for international travel.
Currently detained, Sen. Leila De Lima’s office managed to spend P97,553,315.63. She is the chairperson of the Committee on Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development.
The largest expenditure item went to salaries and benefits of Senate staff totaling P1,048,421,912.91.
