DAVAO CITY — The Regional Oversight Committee Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) declared a total of 39 barangays in Davao Oriental as "drug cleared barangays" in separate ceremonies last December 9 and December 10.
In a statement on Monday (Dec. 13), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 11 said effective Friday (Dec. 10), 32 barangays in the province were declared drug cleared.
The 32 barangay include three barangays (Buso, Dawan and Tagabakid) in Mati City, two barangays (Cawayanan and Simulao) in the municipality of Boston, 11 barangays (Anitap, Lavigan, Luzon, Magdug, Monserrat, Oregon, Poblacion, Pundaguitan, Tamban, Tandang Sora and Upper Tibanban) in the municipality of Governor Generoso, and 16 barangays (Cabadiangan, Calapagan, Cocornon, Corporacion, Don Mariano Marcos, Langka, Lantawan, Limbahan, Magsaysay, Mahayahay, Maragtas, New Visayas, San Isidro, San Jose, Tagboa and Tagugpo) in the municipality of Lupon.
The deliberation for the application of the 32 barangays were held last Friday (Dec. 10) at Leiana Beach Resort, Lukay Lukay, Purok Lawis, Brgy. Bagumbayan, Lupon.
"The ROCBDC concluded that the applicant barangays of the said city and municipalities satisfactorily complied with the required documents for Drug Cleared Barangay as prescribe in PDEA Memorandum Circular Number 2020-041 and Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation Number 4, Series of 2021," the PDEA said.
On Dec. 9, seven barangays, including five from the municipality of New Bataan and two from Compostela were declared cleared from drugs.
Barangays Batinao, Fatima, Kahayag, Magangit and Pagsabangan in the municipality of New Bataan and Barangays Panansalan and San Jose at Compostela Municipal Gym, Compostela Davao Oriental were declared drug-cleared last Thursday. Meanwhile, the ROCBDC also confirmed the status of Barangay Manurigao in New Bataan as an "unaffected barangay".
Data from the National Economic and Development Authority shows that Davao de Oro, formerly known as Compostela Valley, has a total of 237 barangays.
