The Mandaluyong City local government on Monday, Dec. 13, said that 16 barangays have recorded zero active COVID-19 cases and only one barangay has one new case on Sunday, Dec. 12.
Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos shared the good news during the flag-raising ceremony held at the City Hall grounds. She said the achievement shows that the campaign of the local government unit (LGU) against the virus, with the cooperation of the general public, is effective.
The barangays with zero cases are Bagong Silang, Barangka Ibaba, Barangka Ilaya, Burol, Daang Bakal, Hagdan Bato Itaas, Hagdan Bato Libis, Harapin ang Bukas, Mabini-J. Rizal, Mauway, Namayan, Pag-asa, Pleasant Hills, Poblacion, San Jose, and Vergara.
Abalos said the COVID-19 cases in the city have declined drastically as a result of the LGU's efforts in vaccinating the public in partnership with the private sector, and the compliance of residents and non-residents working in the city with the minimum health and safety protocols set by the Department of Health (DOH).
"We hope the number of active cases will continue to go down and hopefully, we'll have zero cases in the near future," Abalos said.
"That would be a great gift for everyone in the city - to be free from COVID-19," she added.
The mayor reminded the public to always wear face masks, wash and sanitize their hands, and maintain physical distancing even when the city has reached population protection.
Earlier, Abalos gave due recognition to groups and government agencies that supported the city's COVID-19 vaccine deployment efforts.
She and other city officials personally handed over certificates and plaques of appreciation to representatives of Philippine National Police (PNP) Mandaluyong, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Mandaluyong, Anthony Suva Fire and Rescue Volunteer and Communication Inc., Mandaluyong City Medical Society, Nasugbu Team, Lemery Team, Mandaluyong City Medical Chapter, and Philippine Pet Birth Control Center Foundation Inc.
Abalos had earlier commended the private companies and schools which have helped the city inoculate its residents against COVID-19.
According to the City Health Office (CHO), Mandaluyong has already deployed 1,018,913 vaccines as of Dec. 1, of which, 520,100 received their first jab while 488,444 have been fully vaccinated.
