Robredo maintains position: NTF-ELCAC should not harass, engage in red-tagging
After being criticized by progressive groups on what appeared to be support for the controversial National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday, Dec. 13, maintained that the task force shouldn’t harass political opponents of the sitting administration.

Robredo earlier earned the ire of progressive groups after she told military generals during a security briefing that she “supports the mandate” of the controversial task force formed by President Duterte to end local insurgencies.
“Number two, wala naman nagbago sa statement ko (Nothing changed in my statement). Even before I already said that I was for a whole-of-nation approach in solving insurgency. I’ve said this so many times already,” she said during a press conference in Cebu City.
“Iyong sinasabi ko, hindi ako against sa mandato ng (What I am saying is I am not against the) whole-of-nation approach pero against ako (but I am against) the way NTF-ELCAC has been red-tagging, the way the task force has been used to go beyond the mandate that the task force has been given,” Robredo said.

This was after she also explained that she would be open to resuming peace talks with insurgent groups if she’s elected president because it addresses “a lot of the core issues” on why insurgency is present will require “localized” talks.
She stressed that while she agrees with the task force’s barangay development fund, which was used to incentivize former conflict-ridden communities, she doesn’t like the “subjective” way it identifies insurgencies.
“Hindi lang ako agree kapag iyong (I just don’t agree when the) task force becomes so powerful that it is already used to harass. Ako mismo (Even myself) I’ve been at the receiving end of red-tagging and it is not something that we should parang (it’s like) we should treat lightly,” Robredo said.
“Iyong sa akin, dapat (For me), the NTF-ELCAC should be beyond politics. It should not be used to harass,” she added.

Robredo herself has been red-tagged by high-ranking officials of the NTF-ELCAC, which also called communists the personalities, artists, and community pantry organizers who have spoken against the Duterte administration.
