Blacklist International faces rival Onic Esports in lower bracket clash

Two squads are set for a big showdown in the second round of the lower bracket action as Onic Esports booked a match against Blacklist International following its 2-0 sweep of Team SMG in the M3 World Championship at the Suntec Singapore Convention Centre on Monday, Dec. 13.

The MPL Indonesia titlists had a quick work of the MPL Malaysia champions to set up a date against the two-time MPL Philippines winner.

The two champion squads will be locking horns in a best-of-three match at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14.

It was rough tournament so far for both teams as Onic ID got relegated to the lower bracket after finishing dead last in the Group of Death which was topped by its sister team and Philippine representatives Onic Philippines.

Blacklist, meanwhile, absorbed a stunning 3-2 upset loss at the hands of BloodThirstyKings in their upper bracket pairing after a perfect 3-0 group stage run. That proved to be costly for the MPL PH champs who got dropped to the lower bracket.

“I’m really confident because we beat them in MPLI, 3-1. Our team is really confident. Blacklist yesterday just lose. I think they got some problem, I don’t know, maybe we can win tomorrow,” said Onic mid-laner Adriand "Drian" Larsen Wong after their game against Team SMG.

Onic ID had Blacklist's number in their lone head-to-head match this season after dealing Blacklist a sound 3-1 beatdown during the Grand Finals of the MPL Invitational last month.

It was Blacklist that won the series opener but Onic decoded a full-strength Blacklist in the next three match to take home the MPLI crown.

The winner of that second round lower bracket clash will take on the winner between Bedel and Vivo Keyd in the best-of-five lower bracket round 3. The loser, meanwhile, will be bidding the tournament goodbye.
