7 drinking buddies arrested for assaulting cop in Tondo


Seven men were arrested after they assaulted a police officer who accosted them for creating noise while drinking in public in Barangay 101, Tondo, Manila on Sunday night, Dec. 12.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the seven suspects as Vicente Palacpac Ubias, Ruben Bañez Diño, Flaviano Maigue Aron Jr., Eduardo Palacpac Ubias, Richard Giaz Melo, Agrifino Sayson Esteroza Jr., and Robert Mata Badong.

According to the police report, tanod Ronald Cusay of Barangay 101 called for police assistance around 9:30 p.m. after seeing the seven unruly men drinking in public on Mel Lopez Boulevard.

Police Cpl. Marvin Floyd Aguilar responded and tried to pacify the suspects, but the latter beat him up. Ubias allegedly drew a handgun and attempted to shoot Aguilar, but the firearm malfunctioned.

Aguilar managed to fire back, hitting Ubias in the lower part of the body.

Ubias was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment while the six other suspects were cuffed by backup police officers.

The seven suspects were charged with direct assault, drinking in public place, and breach of peace.

Ubias was also charged with attempted murder and violation of Republic Act 10591 (The Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

All the seven suspects are currently under the custody of the MPD.
