Rep. Erice to focus on children's 'timely education' if he wins Caloocan City mayor
Caloocan City Second District Rep. Edgar "Egay" Erice on Saturday, Dec. 11, said that he plans to provide the children a "timely education," especially on Information Technology(IT), if he wins as mayor in the incoming 2022 elections.
In an interview with DZRH, Erice said that the children should be given knowledge about IT to improve their prospects in the technologically advanced society.
"Dapat Grade 1 palang tinuturuan mo na ng basic computer education para pagkatapos ng highschool eh ano sila, magagaling na sila, may laban na sila sa trabaho ( Grade 1 should be taught basic computer education so that after highschool, they are already good, and will be able to compete at work)." he said.
Erice said that through information technology, families will have a better lifestyle and livelihood which will also attract businesses to be conducted in the city.
The congressman plans to continue the city's free education program and provide scholarships to the youth, which for him, is better than maintaining huge facilities.
Senior high school(SHS) students and those who take vocational courses should also be given opportunities to conduct internships in companies for them to gain more knowledge and skills to be ready to work.
Meanwhile, Erice also tackled expanding health programs, and address the city's issues on preventive healthcare, lack of health workers, and medicines.
"Gusto ko sana lahat ng mahihirap na taga-Caloocan na pamilya magche-checkup once a year sa tahanan nila (I want all poor families in Caloocan to be checked while inside their homes once a year)," he said.
For micro-businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Erice said that the local government should be considerate to the entrepreneurs in terms of collecting taxes, and the collections should be automated to prevent human intervention and corruption.
Erice assumed office as the city's second district representative in 2013.
