
The Department of Health (DOH) only reported 402 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Sunday, Dec. 12.
Sunday's confirmed cases brought the running tally of cases in the country since last year to 2,836,592.
Of the total, 11,255 remain active. Of those who are still being treated, 4,334 have mild symptoms, 3,683 have moderate symptoms, 1,961 have severe symptoms, 876 were asymptomatic, and 401 were critically ill.
The DOH also reported 509 new recoveries. These brought the recovery count to 2,775,057 or 97.8 percent of the case total.
It confirmed 184 new deaths, causing the country’s death toll to increase to 50,280 or 1.77 percent of the total number of confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, an infectious disease expert said it is best to extend placing most areas of the country under Alert Level 2 until the end of December.
"Personally, I really would agree if the government will still extend the Alert Level 2 until the end of December because what we need now is really making people assured na wala tayong omicron variant at this point in time," said Dr. Rontgene Solante, chief of San Lazaro Hospital's Adult Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Unit, in an interview over ABS-CBN's TeleRadyo on Sunday.
To note, all areas in the country were placed under Alert Level 2 until Dec. 15.
