'Genuine Bisaya': Pacquiao confident he can secure Visayas, Mindanao votes
Claiming he is the only genuine “Bisaya,” presidential aspirant Manny Pacquiao said he is confident he can secure the votes of the people in Visayas and Mindano among all the other candidates vying for the top government position in the upcoming May 2022 national elections.
Pacquiao, who was born in Bukidnon but grew up in General Santos City, said he is banking on his Visayan roots to win in next year’s elections. The country’s boxing icon is from Cebu, while his mother, Dionisia, is from Sarangani.
“Importante yung Mindanao na ikutin ko kasi alam ko na yung mga kababayan ko na mga Bisaya, eh sa lahat ng mga kandidato ako lang ang Bisaya (It’s important to go around Mindanao because I’m familiar with my fellowmen who are Visayan, since out of all the candidates, I am really pure Visayan),” Pacquiao said in a press conference on Saturday, at the opening ceremonies of the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) in Pasay City.
“So I’m sure lahat ng mga taga Visayas at Mindanao, saan pa ba sila susuporta kundi sa kababayan nila na Bisaya (that those in the Visayas and Mindanao region, who else will they support except a fellow Visayan?)” Pacquiao added.
The senator also confirmed he will do a week-long sortie in the Davao region before going home to General Santos City to celebrate his 43rd birthday on December 17.
“Kukumustahin ko lang sila doon (I will visit them there,” he said, saying he is confident to go around a region perceived as a bailiwick of the Dutertes.
Pacquiao is running for president in the upcoming elections under the banner of the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) that is led by Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, another presidential candidate who hails from Davao earlier announced he is withdrawing from the 2022 presidential race.
But Go has yet to appear before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to formally withdraw his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president.
In the same press conference, Pacquiao vowed to push for funding to modernize barangay health centers and community hospitals to lessen the burden of provincial and regional hospitals.
If elected president, the senator also said he would seek free hospitalization for senior citizens on top of their discount privileges.
He also vowed too establish an overseas Filipino workers (OFW) Hospital to cater to the medical needs of overseas workers and their dependents.
