Comelec urged to speed up ruling on disqualification cases vs Marcos Jr.

A former chairman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) urged the poll body to immediately resolve the disqualification cases filed against presidential aspirant and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

"It is important that the Comelec act on this in a proper way and not to unduly delay the process," said Former Comelec chief Christian Monsod during a forum on Sunday, Dec. 12.

Monsod said that the qualifications of a president is very important since it is “the most important elected position in the country.”

“"When it comes to the presidency, it is a different conversation because the executive, the presidency has vast executive powers," he said.

"When it comes to the presidency, people look at it differently. It is important that all the qualifications for president are met," he added.

Seven petitions have already been filed against Marcos to prevent his presidential bid in next year’s general elections.

Of the seven petitions, four of which seek to disqualify him, two seek to cancel his certificate of candidacy, while one is seeking to declare the former senator as a nuisance candidate.
