Quezon City opens zipper lane on Commonwealth Ave.

The Quezon City local government on Friday, Dec. 10, opened a zipper lane on Commonwealth Avenue due to the construction of the Metro Rail Transit-7 (MRT-7) Manggahan Station on the major thoroughfare.

The construction activities (establishment of columns and relocation of utility lanes and drainage systems), which will take place for approximately one month, required closure of the two outermost lanes on Commonwealth Ave. in Manggahan going to Fairview.

The local government said the zipper lane was set on the opposite side of the lane going to the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC).

It will be open for motorists who are bound to Fairview from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., while it will be used as a route for vehicles going to QMC during the remaining hours.

Traffic enforcers will be deployed at the end points of the lane. MRT-7 contractors will also place directional signages and lighting, and mobilize flagmen to guide the motorists, the local government said.

Motorists are reminded to drive safely along the major artery while the construction of the MRT-7 station is ongoing.
