Catriona Gray shares her journey battling body shaming through an intimate audio series

During her reign, the former Miss Universe has been called 'Miss Piggy,' flabby, and 'Fatriona'
If you think winning a pageant cements a woman’s status in beauty, think again.
Catriona Gray removes all filters, both in URL and IRL, in her latest audio series with audio platform Mindset. The former Miss Universe looks back on her deep cuts made by online criticism before and after she won the crown, which led her to fall into the comparison traps.

“I have received hundreds of comments, probably even more in different languages that I haven’t even seen, just picking apart my body,” she says. “Some of the comments that I have received are things like ‘you are not deserving of the title because you don’t work hard enough for your body.’” She has also been a recipient of multiple horrible names such as “gorda” (fat woman), “Miss Piggy,” and “Fatriona.”
While this is all heartbreaking, Catriona is standing her ground as she shares her journey—how she dealt with body shaming, sexism, and rejection along the way. Now, with her life as a music artist, she aims to empower listeners who have once been in situations similar to hers.
“I'm sharing parts of myself that I don't think I've been given the chance to do on other platforms,” Catriona muses. “Hopefully, you'll see your stories reflected in some of mine, and I hope that they make you feel like you're not alone in whatever you're going through.”
Each month, Mindset announces new audio collections that cover a wide spectrum of human experiences. These authentic audio biographies from your favorite artists take you on the journey of their life stories as they share important lessons experienced through trials and trauma, leading to triumphs that come from total resilience. These collections are produced directly with artists, allowing them to tell their stories and experiences in their own words.
Apart from online criticism, the former Miss Universe will also talk about other topics such as finding a path to happiness, boosting one’s confidence, the definition of beauty, among others. Mirroring her purpose, a portion of the proceeds from Catriona’s Mindset Collection will be donated to Smile Train, an organization helping children around the world receive free cleft treatment for cleft lips and palate.
