Alex Eala fell short in the Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Championships Friday after losing in the girls doubles quarterfinals in Plantation, Florida.
Eala and her Argentine partner Solana Sierra absorbed a stunning 3-6, 7-5, 10-2 loss to Switzerland’s Chelsea Fontenel and United States’ Qavia Lopez in her last tournament for the season.
The third-seeded Eala and Sierra started off strong and came close to sweeping their unseeded opponents, only to lose steam in the pivotal moments in the second set.
Eala and Sierra couldn’t muster the same energy in the third frame as Fontenel and Lopez sustained their charge to capture the victory.
A few days ago, Eala lost to Czech Republic’s Kristyna Tomajkova, 6-3, 6-3, in the girls singles second round after a 6-2, 6-3 opening-round win over United States’ Charlotte Owensby.
Eala said she is focusing on her pre-season training for next season after the tournament.
