It’s time to raise the curtain on one of the most famous coronation events of the year: The Miss Universe 2021 pageant. But beyond the glitz, glamour, and showstopping performances lies the heart of the competition: advocacy. Which is why Sendwave, a fee-free money transfer app with close connections to the communities it serves, is thrilled to announce their sponsorship of Miss Universe Philippines.

The 70th annual Miss Universe pageant will take place in Eilat, Israel on Sunday, Dec. 12.

Sendwave, which recently expanded their service in the Philippines, chose to support the service-driven mission of this global pageant by helping Miss Universe Philippines, Bea Gomez, on her road to the crown.

“Filipinos are passionate about beauty pageants and love to show support for their contestants — no matter where they are in the world,” said Gazini Ganados, Miss Universe Philippines 2019 and Sendwave brand ambassador. “I’m proud to represent a company that truly cares about the community it serves.”

Sendwave is a money transfer app with a mission to make sending funds to loved ones as easy and affordable as sending a text. Unlike its competitors, Sendwave prides itself on remaining fee- free in the Philippines, as well as most of the markets it operates in. The app is currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and parts of Europe, and sends funds to 15 receiving countries for over 500,000 users. It currently has a 4.6-star rating on Trustpilot.

But it’s Sendwave’s global team of 450 employees that truly helps the company connect with its users. Many team members live or have loved ones residing in the countries Sendwave serves. That gives them a special insight into the challenges Sendwave’s users face when sending money home, helping to inform the customer support they provide 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The decision to launch in the Philippines was an easy one for the company. Sendwave entered the market at a time when many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were facing instability due to the pandemic. They saw a need in the Filipino community for a fee-free service with high exchange rates, and they worked quickly to provide that.

“The pandemic revealed a need to shift toward more digital options for sending money,” said Will Fogel, CEO of Sendwave. “We wanted to help address that for the Filipino community and provide them with a more affordable way to send funds to the people they care about.”

Using the app is simple and intuitive. Users can download Sendwave from the App Store or Google Play (look for the friendly little penguin). After entering their information at sign up, they can select the country they wish to send funds to.

From there, users can add a new recipient, select the payout method, and enter the required information for the recipient. After entering the amount they wish to transfer, all they have to do is click the send button, confirm their transaction, and voila! The money is on its way.

Recipients can choose to receive the money through GCash, a bank account (Sendwave can send to over 30 major banks including PNB, BDO, and Metrobank), or opt for a cash pickup at M Lhuillier, Cebuana Lhuillier, Palawan Pawnshop, LBC Express, and more. The recipient will then receive a text notifying them about the cash pickup or Gcash transfer within minutes. For bank transfers, they can check their bank app to verify that the funds have reached the account, typically between one to five hours after it’s been sent.

To celebrate their sponsorship of Miss Universe Philippines, Sendwave is launching a special promotion. Enter promo code MUPH and Sendwave will add $10 (approximately PHP500) to the recipient’s funds as a bonus.
